About GLED(Degree Program for Global Leadership EDucation)?

GLED is an international human resources training program tailored to small and medium-sized enterprises for outstanding students in the natural sciences and engineering fields in third countries wishing to find education-employment in Korea.

GLED 1

1. Background and Purpose

  • The shortage of engineering manpower in various sectors including domestic semiconductor, IT, and construction industry is a major obstacle to the development of the Korean industry, and feasible countermeasures are required.
  • In response to this challenge, the KRC has designed the GLED (Degree Program for Global Leadership Education), a customized training program for experts tailored to the needs of industries.
  • Purpose :
    – Supplying domestic SMEs with outstanding foreign personnel
    – Recruiting outstanding graduates from four-year universities abroad, providing graduate education, and supporting stable employment in domestic companies.
    – Conduct training to equip foreign workers with job skills and enhance business competitiveness, including AI applications.

*Government and local government cooperation and support are yet to be determined, and discussions are currently underway for a swift resolution.

  1. Company’s request for employment
  2. Foreign applicant registration
  3. Selection of interview candidates and company interview
  4. Financial support and employment agreements for students selected
  5. Acquisition of employment visa (E7) (Pre-arrival training)
  6. 18-month industry-tailored master’s program at a domestic graduate school
  7. 5-year employment commitment at the sponsoring company upon master’s degree completion

 

4.Application areas and Qualifications

  • Application areas : Machinery, Display, Semiconductor, Bio & Life Science, Textile, Automobile, Electronics, Shipbuilding, Steel, Chemicals, Software, IT Business, Construction, etc.
  • Qualifications
    – Bachelor’s degree graduate from a reputable four-year university
    – Bachelor’s degree or higher in a field of study directly related to or closely aligned with one of the application areas.
    (For instance,  the Bio & Life Science field is open to applicants with degrees in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, chemical engineering, and etc. The Semiconductor and ICT field embraces a diverse range of academic backgrounds, including semiconductor engineering, electronics engineering, physics, and related disciplines.)
    – Preference will be shown to applicants with practical experience gained following college graduation

5. Recruitment schedule

  • The GLED program will begin in March 2025, prioritizing the semiconductor and ICT sectors, and will be expanded to all sectors thereafter. Therefore, KRC will initially accept applications from all sectors, and will proceed with interviews and employment contracts in stages after confirming the company by sector.

GLED 2

1. Background and Purpose

  • Given the pressing demand for specialized manpower in Korean companies, the establishment of GLED 2 (a program that provides on-the-job training and human resource management following initial employment) is deemed essential.
  • Purpose
    – Implementation of a program to identify and recruit qualified graduates from top foreign universities and provide them with opportunities for stable employment in Korean companies.
    – KRC is implementing the GLED2 program for foreign employees to enhance their job performance, foster understanding of corporate culture, and secure competitive advantage through AI applications.

  • Qualifications
    – Master’s degree or higher in a relevant field of study from an accredited university.
    – Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study and at least one year of relevant experience.
    – At least 5 years of relevant experience

  • Recruitment will begin in June 2024, prioritizing the semiconductor and ICT sectors, and will be expanded to all sectors thereafter. Therefore, KRC will initially accept applications from all sectors, and will proceed with interviews and employment contracts in stages after confirming the company by sector.
  • Core Process: Company’s request for employment→ Foreign applicant registration→ Selection of interviewcandidates→ Company interview→ Employment contract→ Acquisition of employment visa (E7) → 6 Months of On-the-Job Training (OJT) and company adaptation education upon arrival → Work for the duration of the employment contract
